About the Students:

LISA LEONG

Lisa Leong is a senior at UCLA majoring in Art History. She also studies French and Asian American Studies. Lisa writes for the online magazine Asia Pacific Arts.

KATHERINE FAN

Katherine is a “refurbished Asian American.” Raised in Texas, she relocated to Taiwan at the age of 10 and returned to the U.S. for college. She is a print/photo journalist and Asian American studies senior at the University of Texas at Austin. In her spare time, Kat is an avid blogger, photographer, designer and bookworm. Since she is a college student, there is not such thing as spare time. Since she is a lazy college student, she carves spare time out of study time. Kat hopes to save the world someday; more realistically, she would enjoy covering international cultural/race issues in Asia and America.

PATRICK G. LEE

Patrick is a freshman at Yale University, and he is pursuing journalism as a staff reporter for the Yale Daily News in print and broadcast. He also writes for the Yale Daily News Magazine and is a member of the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, Yale’s oldest undergraduate a cappella group. His other journalism experience includes writing as the schools columnist for the Barrington Courier-Review, his hometown newspaper, and participating in the Asian American Journalists Association’s J Camp program. This past July, Patrick spent the month in South Africa, volunteering through the United Nations Association and writing a weekly column from overseas for the Courier-Review. In 2007, he was named the National Winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Scholarship, a Toyota Community Scholar, a member of the USA Today’s All-USA Academic First Team, and the Democracy in Action Award Winner, which was presented by Senator John McCain. He is also passionate about musical theater, the Harry Potter books, and violin and tennis, which he has played since the ages of three and four, respectively
