HISTORY | APAHM | SPONSORS

The AZN Asian Excellence Awards takes place in May, in celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM). Much like Black History Month and Women’s History Month celebrations, APAHM originated from legislation. It began in 1978, when President Jimmy Carter signed a bill designating the annual celebration of APAHM. Then in 1990, President George H. W. Bush further expanded the holiday and designated the whole month of May to be celebrated as APAHM.

During APAHM, communities commemorate the achievements and contributions of millions of Asian and Pacific Americans. APAHM is celebrated with community festivals, government-sponsored activities and educational activities for students. Click below for more information on APAHM events around your area.
